The Weekly Diary: Creative Crafts, Iconic Canines, Heavy Beats, and Township Youth Empowerment
Welcome back, Potchefstroom and Ikageng! We have officially crossed the finish line of Week 41 of 2026, and what an extraordinary, multi-faceted seven days it has been across our municipality.

Our "Eyes in the Field" team has been operating at full steam over the past week. Our journey took us from the cozy, textured aisles of a brand-new knitting haven on Retief Street to family dog shows and coloring contests in the CBD. Then, the energy on the Bult reached absolute fever pitch as thousands gathered for the iconic Bult Oktoberfest! Over in Ikageng, our field desk caught up with the inspirational youth and organizers behind the upcoming Mr & Mrs Sarafina pageant.

Grab a fresh cup of coffee, take a seat, and enjoy your comprehensive 8-to-10-minute briefing on the events, spotlights, and local milestones that defined our week!

Our Eyes in the Field: Potchefstroom

From creative fiber arts and family events with iconic furry guests to high-octane stage performances on the Bult, here is how the Potchefstroom field beat unfolded in chronological order.

October 5: A Creative Fiber Paradise at Wool Affair Potchefstroom

We opened our weekly field coverage on Monday with a visit to Wool Affair, a charming new store located at 61 Retief Street in Potchefstroom. If you are passionate about knitting, crocheting, or crafting unique handmade pieces, this vibrant shop is your ultimate destination.

The Go-To Guy media team (with video produced by our own Pieter Conradie) took a full tour of the shelves:

October 7: Dulux Dog Show & Kids' Coloring Contest at Build it Potchefstroom

On Wednesday, our field crew dropped by Build it Potchefstroom (located at 46 Wolmarans Street) to preview an exciting family event set for the weekend.

Build it teamed up with Dulux to host an interactive Dulux Dog Show & Coloring Competition on Saturday, October 10. Local families were invited to bring their kids down to meet, interact with, and snap photos alongside the legendary, fluffy Dulux Old English Sheepdogs!

The gates officially opened at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 10, delivering a fresh festival layout, new surprises, and an electric atmosphere that kept thousands of festival-goers entertained until midnight.

October 8: Preparing for Mr & Mrs Sarafina Secondary School – "Roots To Wings"

Over in Ikageng, our field representative Tshepiso (Your Go-To Guy Ikageng) focused on youth development, pageantry, and community upliftment at Sarafina Secondary School.

Tshepiso sat down for exclusive interviews with both the reigning 2025 contestants and upcoming organizer Oratile Motebele to unpack the legacy, vision, and event expectations for this year's pageant.

Final Thoughts on Week 41

Week 41 beautifully demonstrated the unique, vibrant blend of culture that makes Potchefstroom and Ikageng thrive: from supporting local fiber art businesses and family-friendly hardware events to celebrating German heritage on the Bult and empowering township high school leaders.

As we head further into October, our media crew will remain firmly on the ground to capture upcoming school pageants, municipal election developments, and local business features.

Drive safely, support local shopkeepers, get your pageant tickets early, and let's keep making our community a wonderful place to live!
