Two Ferdinand Postma Learners Reach the AfriSkuld Spelling Final in Pretoria
Two Potchefstroom learners spent the past two days spelling in front of a national audience. Hoerskool Ferdinand Postma announced on Facebook that Mari-Lize Roos and Oracion Titus were taking part in the AfriSkuld spelling competition at the Atterbury Theatre in Pretoria, and that both had reached the final round. The school posted the news in Afrikaans and English, wishing the pair well.
Chosen from a national field
According to the school, roughly 300 learners from across South Africa were invited to take part in the competition after writing a spelling test. Reaching the final round from that field is, in the school's words, an incredible achievement.
The competition is an Afrikaans spelling contest, and the school grouped the news under its academic achievements.
Ferdies keeps its fingers crossed
The post was written as a message of support rather than a results announcement, with the school saying it is incredibly proud of both learners and wishing them everything of the best for the final round.
- Competition: AfriSkuld spelling competition

What this means for you
Results of the final round had not been announced on the school's page at the time of writing, so parents and learners who want to know how the two finished should watch the Hoerskool Ferdinand Postma Facebook page for a follow-up post.
Learners who enjoy Afrikaans and want a shot at a competition like this can ask their Afrikaans teachers about the qualifying spelling test for next year.
