Top 5 for Five Years: Potch Boys' High Matrics Earn a Cape Town Trip
Staying in the top five of a grade for one year is hard enough; doing it for five years in a row, from Grade 8 to matric, is rare. The school celebrated this consistency with a reward its top achievers will not forget, and used the moment to thank the Old Boy who made it possible.
A week in the Mother City
Accompanied by two Grade 12 teachers, the five learners flew to Cape Town for what the school called a "once-in-a-lifetime" trip. They took the cable car up Table Mountain, explored the V&A Waterfront and the aquarium, and went go-karting.
The group also relaxed on the Clifton beaches, went on a scenic boat cruise, visited a penguin rehabilitation centre and enjoyed a chocolate tasting at The Chocolate Afrikoa Manor.
An Old Boy in the kitchen
Later in the week the matrics met Chef Darren Salgado, an Old Boy of the school and an experienced chef at Garden Court Victoria Junction. It was a reminder of where a Potch Boys' High education can lead.
The school thanked the Old Boy sponsor who paid for the trip. "Your generosity inspires the next generation to aim for greatness," the post said.
What this means for you
For younger learners at the school, the trip shows that steady academic work over all five years is noticed and rewarded. For Old Boys, it is an example of how giving back can make a direct difference to current learners.
The matrics now turn their attention to the final NSC examinations, and the school community will be behind them.
