Records Fall as More Than 100 Laerskool Mooirivier Tokkies Take to the Pool
A school gala with more than a hundred swimmers is as much about participation as it is about podiums. Laerskool Mooirivier described the day as a wonderful development opportunity and said it was proud of every "Tokkie" who took part.
Two new records
The standout swimmer of the day was Fredrich Liebenberg, who set new records in both the 50 m freestyle and the 50 m breaststroke. He also finished as the senior boys' Victor Ludorum.
The Ludorum winners
The school named its overall champions in the junior and senior sections, with the senior girls' title shared.
- Junior Victor Ludorum: Joshuah Sutton
- Junior Victrix Ludorum: Ava de Kock
- Senior Victor Ludorum: Fredrich Liebenberg
- Senior Victrix Ludorum: Lisa Kotzé and Millay de Kock
- New records: Fredrich Liebenberg, 50 m freestyle and 50 m breaststroke
Giving back to Uitkoms retirement village
The gala capped a busy last week of term. Mooirivier's head leaders also visited Uitkoms Aftreeoord, delivering products collected by the school community and handing out treat packs to residents. The school thanked its community for every donation, and thanked Potchefstroom Gimnasium for its special contribution to the collection.
During September the school also celebrated National Book Week, with learners designing their own book covers; three Foundation Phase and three Intermediate Phase winners were chosen.
What this means for you
With summer on the way, the gala is a reminder that swimming is both a sport and an essential life skill. Parents can congratulate the swimmers on Laerskool Mooirivier's Facebook page.
