Protea Colours for Potch Girls' High Majorette Kyla Mthethwa at World Championships in Poland
Potch Girls' High has shared the results of one of its learners' biggest outings yet. Kyla Mthethwa went to the Majorette World Championships in Poland as part of the senior South African team and came home with strong placings in several events. The school says her results are the reward for many hours of training.
Top placings against 39 countries
Kyla took part in four disciplines at the championships: Classic Baton, Mace Solo, Baton Flag and Mini Mace. Her best individual result came in Mace Solo, where she finished 12th in the world and third among the South Africans.
She also placed in the top ten in two more events:
- Mace Solo: 12th in the world, 3rd in South Africa
- Baton Flag: 6th
- Mini Mace: 5th
- Mace (team): 2nd overall
A first podium for the senior national team
The team result in Mace was the highlight for South Africa. The school says the Senior South African National Team finished second overall, the first time this year that the team reached the podium.
"Your dedication, talent and hard work have paid off in the most amazing way," the school wrote in its message to Kyla, adding that she had made both South Africa and Potch Girls High proud.
Senior Protea Colours
Being selected for and competing at a world championship earned Kyla her Senior Protea Colours, the national colours awarded to athletes who represent South Africa. The school says it is "incredibly proud" and "a little speechless" at her performance.
What this means for you
Kyla's results show that Potchefstroom's majorettes can compete with the best in the world. Parents and learners who want to congratulate her can leave a message on the Potch Girls' High Facebook page, and girls interested in majorettes can ask the school about joining the squad.
