Potch Hosts Military Delegations for C SANDF MILCOMP 2026
Potchefstroom has once again become a bustling center of defense activity as uniformed personnel from across South Africa and abroad arrive in town for the annual Chief of the South African National Defence Force (C SANDF) Military Skills Competition (MILCOMP) 2026

For local residents, the week-long event brings noticeable movement across familiar municipal landmarks, with competitive activity scheduled to run from Monday, 26 October through Sunday, 1 November 2026.

The week commenced on Monday morning at the Kopanelo Sports Grounds, located at Army Support Base Potchefstroom, where participants assembled for their initial roll-call muster. Shortly thereafter, delegations moved through town toward the Eerste Vesting Dutch Reformed Church, an established local fixture chosen to host essential briefings. Inside the venue, team representatives received operational guidelines covering citywide safety and security protocols, the MILCOMP scoring framework, and public communication initiatives tied to the competition's social media campaign.

By Monday afternoon and continuing into Tuesday, teams dispersed across designated community training areas to run dry-run preparations. At Kopanelo Sports Grounds, participants took turns navigating the land and water obstacle courses alongside grenade throwing practice bays. Meanwhile, target practice got underway across the way at the Dirkie Uys Shooting Range, with pistol and rifle lanes fully engaged. The official Opening Parade is set to take place on Tuesday morning, 27 October, ushering in the formal scoring phases of the tournament.

As the exercise progresses over the coming days, the influx of domestic and international service members will continue to engage facilities across the base and broader Potchefstroom area, highlighting the town's recurring role as a key staging ground for major military sports and tactical evaluations.
