Laerskool Baillie Park's First Girls' Cricket Team Ends Season Unbeaten as North West Champions
Laerskool Baillie Park has ended its first girls' cricket season with a title. The Potchefstroom primary school announced on Facebook that its under-13A girls' side had beaten Laerskool Vryburg in the North West league final at Wolmaransstad, winning by five wickets. For a programme in its opening year, it is a striking way to start.
Unbeaten from the first tournament to the final
The school said the team did not lose a single match all season, going from the opening tournament right through to the final without a defeat, and was crowned North West league winner as a result.
Baillie Park called the result history-making for the school, pointing out that this was the very first girls' cricket season it has run.
Ansu Fourie takes player of the match
Ansu Fourie was named player of the match in the final after taking three wickets for just 21 runs. The school singled out her bowling as one of the reasons the side was able to close out the game.
- Final: Baillie Park u/13A beat Laerskool Vryburg by five wickets
- Venue: Wolmaransstad
- Season record: Unbeaten
- Player of the match: Ansu Fourie, three wickets for 21 runs
Thanks to the people around the team
In its post the school thanked every player, coach and supporter who was part of the season, saying the result came down to hard work, perseverance and teamwork rather than any single performance.
What this means for you
Girls' cricket at primary school level is still finding its feet in the North West, and Baillie Park has just shown Potchefstroom parents what a first season can look like. Families with daughters who might be interested can contact the school to ask how the programme will run next year.
Supporters who want to follow the team's next fixtures and results can keep an eye on the school's Facebook page.
