Laerskool Baillie Park Crowns Its Baillie Bee Oral Spelling Champions
Spelling out loud in front of classmates and teachers takes preparation and nerve. Laerskool Baillie Park's Baillie Bee gave its Grade 5 and Grade 6 learners the chance to show both, and the school shared the results with its community as the third term drew to a close.
The Baillie Bee winners
In Grade 6, the boys' title was shared, with Ethan Booysen and Benyah van Vreden finishing joint first. Adel van der Walt won the girls' section.
In Grade 5, Stian Baron was the boys' winner and Oatle Tolman the girls' winner.
- Grade 6 boys (joint first): Ethan Booysen and Benyah van Vreden
- Grade 6 girls: Adel van der Walt
- Grade 5 boys: Stian Baron
- Grade 5 girls: Oatle Tolman
Every speller counted
The school said all the participants had impressed with their preparation and spelling skill, and congratulated every learner who took part, not only the winners.
Young entrepreneurs at work
It was a busy end of term at Baillie Park. The school's Grade 7 learners also held an Entrepreneurs' Day, turning their own ideas into small businesses and selling their products to the school community. The school thanked parents, learners and staff who supported the young entrepreneurs.
What this means for you
Parents of younger learners can encourage regular spelling practice at home; competitions like the Baillie Bee reward learners who read widely and prepare early.
Congratulations can be shared on Laerskool Baillie Park's Facebook page, where the school posts news from the classroom and sports field.
