Joint Agencies Conduct High-Impact Roadblock on N12 for Transport Month
The joint operation brought together multiple law enforcement and provincial security entities to enforce traffic compliance and combat cross-border crime.
Operations and Inter-Agency Collaboration
The coordinated operation involved officers and officials from a wide range of departments and municipal units, including:
Provincial & National Traffic Units: Gauteng Traffic Police, North West Traffic Police, and the National Traffic Police.
Local Municipal Traffic Services: Merafong Traffic and Rand West Traffic.
Police & Government Departments: South African Police Service (SAPS), Department of Home Affairs, and the Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport.
Security Partners: Gauteng Harmony Security.
Stationed along the N12 corridor between Fochville and Potchefstroom, the teams focused on vehicle roadworthiness, driver documentation, criminal interdiction, and general road safety enforcement.
Key Operational Results and Enforcement Figures
During the course of the operation, participating agencies logged significant enforcement successes across traffic and criminal law domains:
Traffic Violations: More than 200 AARTO (Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences) infringement notices were issued, totaling over R207,000 in monetary fines.
Immigration Enforcement: Officers detained eight undocumented foreign nationals, who were handed over to Department of Home Affairs officials for further processing.
Crime Prevention: One suspect was taken into custody after being found in possession of copper materials and specialized equipment suspected of being used in housebreaking offences.
