Hoer Volkskool Potchefstroom Gives Its 2027 Grade 8s a First Taste of Volkie Life
Hoer Volkskool Potchefstroom used the last stretch of the third term to introduce its next intake to the school. In a Facebook post the school said its Grade 8s of 2027 had spent the day on campus for an orientation it calls Volkies Eerste Klas, while parents held conversations with staff in the school hall. The school described the day as the moment its future started first-hand.
Hands in the soil and in the kitchen
Rather than sitting through presentations, the learners worked their way through a series of practical sessions. They planted the first Volkie mielies of the season, explored the workings of the heart in Life Sciences and decorated doughnuts in Consumer Studies.
They also got a feel for what the school calls the heartbeat of Volkies sport, giving them a sense of the co-curricular side of high school before they arrive.
Parents in the hall
While the learners moved between classrooms, their parents were in the school hall for what the school described as valuable conversations. Orientation days of this kind are often where families sort out the practical questions about uniforms, subject choices and transport before the year begins.
Excitement about the new intake
The school said the excitement about its new Volkie family is growing, and closed the post with the hashtags it uses for the 2027 group.
What this means for you
Parents of children joining Hoer Volkskool Potchefstroom in 2027 can expect more communication of this kind as the year closes. Registrations for Grade 8 in 2027 are open on the school's online registration portal, which the school has linked from its Facebook page.
Families still deciding on a high school for next year should contact the school directly to ask whether places are still available.
