Four From Four: Potchefstroom Gimnasium First XI Unbeaten at the Jansen-Gimmie Cricket Festival
The September holidays have started in style for Potchefstroom Gimnasium's (Gimmies) first cricket team. The school has been sharing daily updates from the Jansen-Gimmie Cricket Festival, and so far every one of them has ended in a win.
A solid start against Wesvalia and Steyn City
Gimmies opened the festival by chasing down Wesvalia's 109/9 to win by seven wickets, with Ulrich Botha scoring 51 and Lukas Kotze 31, while Bernard Judels took three wickets.
On day two the bowlers took charge, dismissing Steyn City for 110. Adriaan van Niekerk took four wickets and Henré Cronje two, and Gimmies reached the target for the loss of four wickets.
A big statement against Stellenberg
Day three brought the most emphatic result of the festival so far. Gimmies piled up 344/5 and then bowled Stellenberg out for 61 to win by 283 runs. On day four the team completed a successful chase against Helpmekaar, reaching 169/5 after bowling them out for 168.
The school credited strong batting, excellent bowling and an outstanding team effort, and thanked every player, coach and supporter involved in the tournament.
- Day 1: Gimmies 115/3 beat Wesvalia 109/9 by 7 wickets
- Day 2: Gimmies 112/4 beat Steyn City 110 all out by 6 wickets
- Day 3: Gimmies 344/5 beat Stellenberg 61 all out by 283 runs
- Day 4: Gimmies 169/5 beat Helpmekaar 168 all out by 5 wickets
