Four Ferdinand Postma Archers Shoot for North West at the SA Championships in Jeffreys Bay
Ferdinand Postma High School sent its archers off with a message of support on the morning they began competing at national level. The four learners were chosen for North West's provincial teams, so the school is represented on two of the province's squads at the SA championships.
Two Ferdies in each North West team
The school named the archers and the teams they shoot for. Gerhard Maritz and Divan van der Walt are in the Impala team, North West's A-side. Angelique Stapelberg and Elné Jacobs are in the Knypkoppe, the province's B-team.
- Impala (North West A-team): Gerhard Maritz, Divan van der Walt
- Knypkoppe (North West B-team): Angelique Stapelberg, Elné Jacobs
- Venue: Jeffreys Bay, Eastern Cape
Blue and white on the national stage
In its bilingual post the school said it was incredibly proud of the four and knew they would represent the blue and white with pride. It told them to enjoy every moment, give their best and make both North West and Ferdies proud.
Archery is one of the quieter codes on a school's sports calendar, but being picked for a provincial team to compete at national championships is a real achievement for any learner. For Ferdies, it means the school has four of its own on North West's two squads.
What this means for you
Parents, learners and old Ferdies can follow the school's Facebook page for updates and results from Jeffreys Bay. It is also a good time to send the archers a message of support while they compete.
