Daniël Jacobs Hits 221 as Hoër Volkskool's Under-14s Shine at the Shaun Pollock Tournament
Entering two teams in one of the country's best-known age-group cricket festivals is a statement of depth. Hoër Volkskool (Volkies) said that, apart from the host school, it was the only school able to enter two under-14 sides in the Shaun Pollock tournament, calling it proof of its focus on developing young cricketers.
A winning start
Both Volkies teams won on the opening day. The school singled out Wernich Voigt for his three wickets and Gerhard Harmse for his four.
A double century to remember
The standout moment came from Daniël Jacobs, who struck 221 runs in an innings. The school said the knock took his tally to almost 1 400 runs for Volkies this year. On the same day, one team recorded a win over Pearson while the other went toe to toe with Affies.
A nail-biter against Noordheuwel
Later in the tournament, one of the teams edged Noordheuwel in what the school called an absolute nail-biter. Corné Bergh took seven wickets, and a memorable catch by Jean Liebenberg sealed the win. The other side lost a tough match to Queen's College by just 26 runs.
- Daniël Jacobs: 221 runs; nearly 1 400 runs for the season
- Corné Bergh: 7 wickets against Noordheuwel
- Gerhard Harmse: 4 wickets

- Results reported: wins over Pearson and Noordheuwel; lost to Queen's College by 26 runs
