Community Unites at Sarafina Hall for Parental Dialogue on Gender-Based Violence
The event was specifically organized to address the surge of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the area. Outlining the purpose of the gathering, Mr. Mohau explained that Sarafina was intentionally selected as the host location due to a sequence of tragic local events that occurred within the same month. Among these was the brutal rape and murder of an eleven-year-old child, as well as the murder of a young woman by her partner in the presence of their infant child.
In the wake of these horrific incidents, Are Aganeng and its partner organizations mobilized the local initiative to provide a dedicated space for community engagement, offering support services while actively collaborating on long-term solutions to combat violence. The dialogue provided a meaningful platform for residents to express their concerns, process collective trauma, and commit to multi-sectoral strategies aimed at eradicating GBV from the municipality.

As local stakeholders and community members conclude this latest round of discussions, the dialogue marks an important step toward fostering safer neighborhoods through unified local action and sustained awareness efforts.
