Bullseye for North West: Ferdinand Postma Archer Gerhard Maritz Wins IPC Shoot-Off

Ferdies shared two posts on 1 October 2026 celebrating its archers, who shot for North West at this year's Interprovincial Competition. Four of the school's learners were selected for the provincial teams, and between them they brought home an individual title, perfect scores and two team podium finishes.

First place in the final shoot-off

Gerhard Maritz was the standout performer. Competing against some of the best archers from the other provinces, he scored 293 out of 300 in the final shoot-off to take first place.

The school said it was incredibly proud of him and that his hard work, talent and dedication were paying off, adding that he had once again made the Blue and White shine.

Perfect scores across the board

All four Ferdies archers posted perfect scores during the competition. Gerhard shot a perfect 100, while Divan van der Walt and Angelique Stapelberg each shot a perfect 50. Elné Jacobs shot a perfect 50 at 15 m.

Two North West teams on the podium

The Ferdies pairs also anchored two North West teams that finished in the top three overall.

• North West A-team: Gerhard Maritz and Divan van der Walt, 1st overall
• North West B-team: Elné Jacobs and Angelique Stapelberg, 3rd overall

The results continue a busy spring for the school's archery programme, which sent four archers to represent the province this term.
