SA Trio Lock Down Top-Four Spots Ahead of International Hiatus
The Vodacom Bulls, DHL Stormers, and Hollywoodbets Sharks delivered decisive victories in Round 5 of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship (URC) to cement places in the top four on the log before the championship pauses for this month's Nations Championship window.

While the men from Pretoria and Cape Town defended home ground in high-scoring fashion, the Durbanites ground out a historic triumph at Thomond Park. The 10bet Lions staged a brave second-half fightback in Scotland against the league's only remaining unbeaten side, Glasgow Warriors, but ultimately fell short late in the contest.

With Edinburgh crashing to a 31–12 defeat against Benetton in Treviso, Glasgow surged to the top of the table on 23 points. The Vodacom Bulls sit second on 21 points, separated only by points difference from the third-placed DHL Stormers (21 points), while the Hollywoodbets Sharks and Edinburgh are locked on 19 points apiece. The Lions slip to 13th spot (9 points) ahead of local derbies resuming in December.

Match Highlights & Recaps

Sharks Grind Out Historic Limerick Victory

The Hollywoodbets Sharks produced a disciplined defensive masterclass to defeat Munster 15–3 at Thomond Park, securing their spot inside the top four.

The result marked only the Sharks' second win in 13 attempts on Irish soil and made them just the second side to conquer Munster at Thomond Park, matching the feat achieved by the Vodacom Bulls in April 2025.

Gianni Lombard put the tourists ahead in the 15th minute with the game's opening try and added a 54th-minute penalty to extend the lead to 8–3 after JJ Hanrahan had kicked Munster's lone points. Even a yellow card to Springbok prop Ox Nche for an illegal clean-out failed to derail the Durbanites. Around the hour mark, a break from Nick Hatton paved the way for Ivan van Zyl to cross for the decisive try, with Lombard adding the conversion and keeping the Irish province scoreless for the remainder of the evening.

Stormers Shift Gears to Clinch Bonus Point Against Ulster

The DHL Stormers overcame a sluggish opening spell at the DHL Stadium to outclass Ulster 33–7, claiming a full five-point haul to maintain their pristine home record

Ulster drew first blood when David McCann powered over for an early 7–0 lead, which held until seven minutes before the interval when JD Schickerling forced his way over near the uprights. On the stroke of halftime, Springbok flanker Paul de Villiers charged down an attempted clearance to dot down, sending the hosts into the break 12–7 ahead.

The Stormers accelerated in the second half. Evan Roos produced a scintillating 60-metre solo try five minutes after the restart, before newly minted Springbok tourist Yaqeen Ahmed took control. The young playmaker delivered a pinpoint cross-kick for skipper Ruhan Nel to gather under pressure and score, before cutting a sharp line off a Haashim Pead feed to dive over himself and finish with an 18-point personal haul.

  • DHL Stormers 33 (12) – Tries: JD Schickerling, Paul de Villiers, Evan Roos, Ruhan Nel, Yaqeen Ahmed. Conversions: Ahmed (4).

  • Ulster 7 (7) – Try: David McCann. Conversion: Jack Murphy.

Eight-Try Bulls Power Away from Scarlets at Fortress Loftus

The Vodacom Bulls unleashed an eight-try onslaught at Loftus Versfeld, overcoming a mid-match Scarlets resurgence to claim a 54–26 bonus-point win.

The Bulls established a 19–0 lead through a pair of rolling maul and forward drives, but Scarlets refused to yield. The Welsh side struck back to trail 19–12 at the interval and briefly leveled the scores at 26–26 just before the hour mark when Joe Roberts crossed for their fourth try.

Pretoria's forward pack responded emphatically in

the final quarter, dominating the set-piece and running in four tries in the final 22 minutes. Marcell Coetzee and Dylan Maart each secured braces, while industrious flanker Jeandre Rudolph, Willie le Roux, Sebastian de Klerk, and Johan Grobbelaar completed the rout. Curwin Bosch was in sublime form with the boot, converting seven of the eight tries.

  • Vodacom Bulls 54 (19) – Tries: Marcell Coetzee (2), Dylan Maart (2), Jeandre Rudolph, Willie le Roux, Sebastian de Klerk, Johan Grobbelaar. Conversions: Curwin Bosch (7).

  • Scarlets 26 (12) – Tries: John McKee, Sam Lousi, Archie Hughes, Joe Roberts. Conversions: Carwyn Leggat-Jones (3).

Late Glasgow Strike Halts Valiant Lions Comeback

The 10bet Lions fell short in a spirited battle at Scotstoun on Friday night, going down 29–20 to unbeaten log-leaders Glasgow Warriors.

Glasgow appeared in complete command at halftime, carrying a 19–3 advantage after running in three tries, two arriving in the final 10 minutes of the half while Etienne Oosthuizen was in the sin-bin.

Johannesburg produced a rousing response after the break. MornΓ© van den Berg sparked the resurgence with a 50th-minute try, followed by a score from Siba Mahashe. When MornΓ© Brandon crashed over with 10 minutes remaining, the Lions snatched an improbable 20–19 lead. However, Glasgow found an extra gear in the closing minutes: Ollie Smith crossed in the 76th minute, and George Horne slotted an injury-time penalty to deny the visitors a losing bonus point.

  • Glasgow Warriors 29 (10) – Tries: Fergus Watson, Dan Lancaster, Jack Singleton, Ollie Smith. Conversions: George Horne (3). Penalty goal: Horne.

  • 10bet Lions 20 (3) – Tries: Morne van den Berg, Siba Mahashe, Morne Brandon. Conversion: Boeta Chamberlain. Penalty goal: Chris Smith.
