Seventeen Laerskool Saamtrek Cyclists Race at the SCSA National Finals in Stellenbosch
For a primary school, sending 17 riders to a national cycling final is a remarkable showing. Laerskool Saamtrek shared the news with its "Samies" community, naming every learner who made the trip and calling the event the highlight of a season of hard work.
An invitation-only national final
The school explained that the National Finals are an invitational event for qualifying schools that took part in, and qualified through, provincial or regional qualifying events during the season.
Reaching Stellenbosch is therefore the reward for a full season of racing, and the school described it as the peak of a year of hard work, dedication, perseverance and a passion for cycling.
The Samies on the start line
The school named the following 17 riders: Evan Kruger, George van Dyk, Japie Coetzer, David du Plessis, Travis Levey, Hanru J. van Rensburg, Christiaan Botha, Eli Nel, Rosalin Coetzer, Leandi Carelzen, Zanika Campbell, Miané Kruger, Bianca Crots, Johannes du Plessis, Bryan King, Elijah Horn and Righardt Henning.
"Ry sterk, ry trots en geniet elke oomblik!" (Ride strong, ride proud and enjoy every moment), the school wrote in its message to the team.
