Matlosana Says Housing Needs Register Is Not Registering People for Stands
The statement follows rumours in the community that people signing up with Human Settlements would be allocated stands. The municipality says the exercise only records housing needs, and has apologised for the confusion the circulating information caused.
What the register is for
The NHNR is a national database that records individuals and households in need of government-subsidised housing. It helps government understand housing demand in communities and plan and prioritise future housing delivery.
The municipality stressed that being on the register does not automatically guarantee a house, a residential stand or an allocation of land.
What it is not
According to the statement, the current activities must not be confused with the registration or allocation of residential stands. Any suggestion that residents are being registered to receive stands at the areas below is incorrect:
- ABI, near Coke
- Matlosana Estates Extension 1
- Matlosana Estates Extension 2
- Any other location mentioned in the rumours
"It should not be interpreted as an announcement of land availability, a promise of housing or confirmation of stand allocations," the Human Settlements Department said.
An apology to residents
The municipality said it understands that housing is a sensitive matter, particularly for families who have waited a long time, and that it apologises for the misunderstanding.
What this means for you
If you register on the NHNR, you are recording your housing need, not reserving a stand. Treat anyone who promises a stand through this exercise with caution.
The municipality asks residents to get clarity directly from its Human Settlements Department and to rely only on verified municipal announcements about housing projects, stands and allocations.
