Matlosana Municipality Enacts Planned Water Shutdown in Kanana and Precautionary Closures at Klerksdorp Library
The City of Matlosana Local Municipality has issued public notices detailing scheduled service adjustments and precautionary facility restrictions affecting residents in Kanana and Klerksdorp.

These operational changes involve scheduled water infrastructure maintenance set for the weekend as well as safety-related section closures at a municipal library facility.

Kanana Water Supply Interruption Scheduled for Sunday

Residents across the entire area of Kanana will face a planned disruption to municipal water provision on Sunday, 8 November 2026. The interruption is scheduled to begin at 01:00 and continue through 18:00, spanning an estimated duration of 17 hours.

According to municipal technical teams, the scheduled shutdown is necessary to replace an essential gate valve located on the main water supply pipeline at the Kanana Reservoir. Consumers throughout the township may experience significantly reduced water pressure or complete supply failure during the designated repair window.

Local households are advised to collect and store adequate water supplies ahead of the shutdown to address essential domestic needs. To mitigate the disruption, the municipality indicated that mobile water tankers will be deployed across Kanana to deliver emergency water reserves while maintenance crews finalize the pipeline overhaul.

Health and Safety Measures Prompt Closures at Klerksdorp Library

In a separate development, the municipality announced temporary structural and operational limitations at the Klerksdorp Library, taking effect from Friday, 6 November 2026, until further notice.

The precautionary closure follows internal health and safety assessments within designated parts of the facility. While specific hazards are being examined and remedied by relevant safety officers, select public amenities will continue to operate under adapted conditions:

Municipal leadership noted that regular operational status will resume once identified safety risks are thoroughly inspected and resolved. Members of the public requiring additional information regarding both notices can direct queries to Ms. Ntswaki Makgetha, Assistant Director of Corporate Communication, via telephone at 018 487 8311 or email at ntswaki@klerksdorp.org.

The ongoing adjustments reflect standard municipal asset management and routine safety enforcement aimed at maintaining community infrastructure and safeguarding public service environments across Matlosana.
