Matlosana Hosts Annual Flea Market Day
The City of Matlosana, through its Local Economic Development (LED) Directorate, convened its Annual Flea Market Day on Saturday, 31 October 2026, creating a dedicated marketplace for small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs), cooperatives, and informal traders.

Designed to advance local economic activity and enterprise visibility, the gathering offered community vendors direct access to consumers while fostering wider commercial engagement across the municipal area.

Leadership Backing and Strategic Objectives

The event drew senior civic representation, including Executive Mayor Cllr Fikile Mahlophe and Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Local Economic Development, Cllr Wesley Kgang. Formal proceedings opened with remarks from LED Manager Mr. J. Danxa, followed by an overview from Ms. Tebogo Ramone, Assistant Director for LED, Marketing, and Tourism. Ramone indicated that the initiative aligns directly with the municipality’s Service Delivery and Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP), targeting sustainable market access, regional value chains, and consumer support for homegrown enterprises. In his keynote address, MMC Kgang emphasized administrative backing for emerging enterprises, commending the LED directorate's coordination efforts and highlighting the sector's importance to overall employment and community resilience.

Private Sector Alignment and Enterprise Incentives

Corporate and community partners actively contributed to the day's proceedings. Ms. Tsholofelo Kgatlana of the Mulilo Solar Project delivered a message of support focusing on sustainable economic integration. Several private stakeholders provided direct operational and promotional incentives to participating vendors:

Closing assessments from municipal officials affirmed the role of multi-sector collaboration in sustaining grassroots enterprise. By coordinating recurring trading platforms alongside commercial partners, the City of Matlosana aims to maintain ongoing market channels that support micro-business viability and drive broader local economic stability.
