Matlosana Brings Housing Needs Register Registration to Tigane Extension 8 on Friday
Households in Tigane who are waiting for housing have one day this week to get their details onto the national database that government uses to identify beneficiaries. Rather than asking residents to travel to a municipal office, the City of Matlosana is bringing the registration process into Extension 8 for a full working day.
What the register is
The municipality describes the National Housing Needs Register as a central database that allows households to register their need for adequate housing by providing information about their current living conditions, household composition and the type of housing assistance required from government.
The notice lists four interlinked services offered by the department: the National Housing Needs Register, subsidised housing, title deeds and the resolution of housing disputes. It carries the MMC for Planning and Human Settlements, Cllr Portia Mtshawulana, and Ward 1 Councillor PG Mqikela.
How registration works
Residents register their housing needs by completing an NHNR questionnaire, which is then captured on the national register. Qualifying beneficiaries receive an SMS with a reference number showing that they have been captured on the system.
The municipality then identifies potential beneficiaries from the register when housing projects become available, and asks residents to keep their contact details on the register up to date so that they can be reached.
Where and when
- Date: Friday, 25 September 2026

What this means for you
If you live in Extension 8 and have never put your housing need on record, this is the chance to do it without leaving the township. It helps to arrive with your identity document and the details of everyone living in your home, because the questionnaire asks about household composition and living conditions.
