Leadership Is About Example: Laerskool Saamtrek Inducts Its New Learner Council
Laerskool Saamtrek has welcomed a new group of Grade 7 leaders. At an inauguration function attended by the councillors' parents and loved ones, the young leaders were reminded of the responsibility and privilege that come with their new roles.
An evening of pride and high expectations
The school described the function as an evening of pride, high expectations and meaningful messages. Both head leaders, Anri Kruger and Dries Dreyer, spoke to their fellow councillors about what real leadership means.
"Not the badge on your blazer"
The school singled out head boy Dries Dreyer's words as the best summary of the group.
"It is not the badge on your blazer that makes you a leader, but the example you set for others," Dries said (translated from Afrikaans).
The school says this is exactly what it sees in the new council. Leadership, it wrote, is not about a title, a position or a badge, but about character, integrity, responsibility, building others up and setting the right example even when nobody is watching.
Leaving a mark on Saamtrek
The school called the council a dynamic group of young people with energy, potential and heart, and said they will leave a piece of themselves in the school's history. It reminded them that true leaders are remembered for the difference they made and the people they inspired, not the badge they wore.
What this means for you
Saamtrek learners and parents can expect to see the new councillors leading at assemblies, events and in everyday school life. Parents can congratulate the new leaders on the school's Facebook page.
