Coloured Hair for a Cause: Curro Klerksdorp Interact Club Holds Cancer Awareness Day
The day was organised by the school's Interact club to raise awareness about the many different types of cancer. Its focus was on education, early detection and support for people and families affected by the disease, and it brought a burst of colour to the school grounds.
A school-wide show of solidarity
Learners took part by dressing in colours associated with various cancers and adding a splash of colour by spraying their hair. According to the school, the result was a vibrant display of solidarity right across the campus.
The initiative did more than brighten the day. The school says it sparked meaningful conversations among learners and encouraged them to find out more about the challenges faced by people living with cancer and by their families.
Honouring survivors and those still fighting
In its post, the school thanked everyone who participated and helped make the day a success. It described the event as a way to honour survivors, support those who are currently fighting cancer, and remember those who have been lost to the disease.
"Every conversation and every act of awareness helps make a difference," the school wrote.
Service above self
Interact is a service club for young people, and the awareness day fits its focus on service above self. Days like this give learners a practical way to put that idea to work in their own school community.
What this means for you
Parents can use the day as a starting point for conversations at home about cancer, early detection and how to support friends and family who are affected. Follow Curro Klerksdorp's Facebook page for future Interact projects that learners and families can get involved in.
