City of Matlosana Launches 50% Debt Relief Incentive Programme
The initiative, designed to assist account holders with outstanding balances while bolstering local revenue collection, outlines specific discount terms and qualifying conditions across two main applicant streams
Key Features and Eligibility Criteria
The programme offers a 50% discount on aged municipal accounts under strictly monitored conditions:
Households & Businesses (Aged Debt): Account holders with balances that are 90 days or older, including accounts that have already been handed over for legal collection, qualify for a 50% discount
. To receive the write-off, applicants must settle 50% of the capital debt in a single, once-off payment and continuously maintain both their current account and 30-day account balances in full . Regular Paying Consumers with Arrears: Account holders who have demonstrated regular payment behavior by settling their accounts consistently for six consecutive months and keeping their current obligations fully up to date qualify to have 50% of their arranged arrears balance written off
. Qualifying amounts for this tier are automatically calculated by the municipality's financial system .
Exclusions and Operational Terms
To maintain municipal regulatory standards, specific exclusions and guidelines apply across all categories:
Excluded Categories: Property rates are strictly excluded from the incentive programme across all property types
. Additionally, government-owned properties and school properties do not qualify for any debt discounts under this initiative . Validity Period: The incentive programme is active from 1 June 2026 to 30 November 2026
. Application Process: Interested residents and commercial consumers are required to apply in person at their nearest Municipal Office or Customer Care Centre
.
The City of Matlosana's Finance Department encourages eligible consumers to utilize this opportunity before the November closing date to regularize their municipal accounts
