City of Matlosana Introduces Special Relief on Motor Vehicle License Penalties and Arrears
This program aims to address outstanding debts through manageable payment arrangements, particularly targeting motorists and businesses experiencing financial distress. By providing favorable terms, the municipality seeks to encourage licensing compliance, generate revenue, and support residents in legalizing their vehicles.
Special Arrangements and Relief Packages Offered
The special relief project is aimed at vehicle owners with outstanding registration and licensing debts incurred on or before 2022, particularly where the total arrears and penalties exceed R5,000.00. However, the relief criteria have been expanded to include various tiers of debt, provided the vehicle's license expiry date is two years or older. The specific relief and payment arrangement terms include:
For combined arrears and penalties between R3,000.00 and R5,000.00: A 20% discount will be applied to the total outstanding amount.
For combined arrears and penalties of R5,000.00 and above: The historical arrears will be completely written off, leaving the client liable only for the payment of the remaining penalties.
Payment Terms: To qualify for any of these arrangements, the motorist must pay an upfront 50% deposit[cite: 6]. The remaining balance will have 10% interest added and must be settled in monthly installments over an agreed, suitable period.
The initiative is open to all members of the public, including farmers, transport companies, public transport operators, and mining companies operating within the province.
Scheduled Venue and Contact Information
The scheduled engagement is set to take place over a three-day period from Wednesday, 14 October to Friday, 16 October 2026, between 09:00 and 15:00 daily. Affected vehicle owners are encouraged to visit the designated venue: Dr Kenneth Kaunda Klerksdorp Licensing
For those requiring further clarity on the qualifying criteria or documentation needed to finalize an arrangement, the licensing authority has made inquiry hotlines available at 018 487 8848 and 018 487 8845.
The City of Matlosana and provincial transport officials urge all qualifying vehicle owners to take advantage of this limited window to settle their dues and avoid further penalties[cite: 6]. This project represents an opportunity for the community to regularize their vehicle statuses under heavily subsidized and manageable terms.
