City of Matlosana Inducts 45 New EPWP Recruits to Enhance Local Infrastructure
The City of Matlosana’s Infrastructure Directorate has officially inducted 45 new participants into the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), marking a key initiative aimed at boosting municipal service delivery while fostering local job creation.

The orientation session took place on Tuesday, 6 October 2026, welcoming recruits who began their employment contracts on 1 October 2026. This cohort will serve a 12-month tenure within the municipality, contributing directly to physical maintenance and public infrastructure projects across the region.

All 45 participants have been assigned to the Roads and Stormwater Division, which operates under the leadership of Infrastructure Director Mr. S.N. Mongale. Funding for the recruits' monthly stipends is provided through the National Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, demonstrating an ongoing intergovernmental effort to address unemployment and support community development. During the induction program, participants were introduced to the foundational principles of the EPWP, workplace safety regulations, professional codes of conduct, disciplinary protocols, and operational procedures. Operational and procedural briefings were delivered jointly by representatives from the Infrastructure Directorate, the Performance Management Unit, the Department of Public Works, and the Independent Development Trust.

The new workforce will play an active role in daily physical maintenance operations across the municipality's road network. Assistant Director for Roads, Mr. Matsi, highlighted that the recruits will primarily focus on critical urban upkeep tasks, including repairing potholes, clearing roadside kerbs, and unblocking stormwater drainage channels to ensure proper water flow and road safety. Through the continuation of the EPWP framework, the City of Matlosana aims to strengthen its frontline municipal maintenance operations while simultaneously delivering structured temporary employment opportunities to community members.
