City of Matlosana Halts Household Refuse Collection on Public Holiday, 24 September
The City of Matlosana has told residents that its household refuse service will pause for a day this week because of a public holiday. The notice is addressed to the whole Matlosana community, so households whose bins are usually emptied on a Thursday will have to wait an extra day for the truck.
Which collections still go ahead
Not everything stops. The municipality says a limited list of premises will still be serviced on the day.
"Only essential services (hospitals, clinics, supermarket, restaurants and old-age homes) will be collected," the notice states.
When the trucks return
Normal household refuse collection will resume on Friday, 25 September 2026. The notice applies to Thursday only and says nothing about changes to any other collection day.
- No household collection: Thursday, 24 September 2026
- Still collected: hospitals, clinics, supermarkets, restaurants and old-age homes
- Normal service resumes: Friday, 25 September 2026
- Enquiries: 018 487 8771 (during working hours)
What this means for you
If Thursday is your usual collection day, keep your bin closed and inside your yard until Friday morning instead of leaving it standing on the pavement overnight, where wind and scavenging animals can spread the contents across the street.
If your bin is still standing full after Friday's round, phone the municipality on 018 487 8771 during working hours to report the missed collection.
