City of Matlosana Enforces Waste Regulations in Klerksdorp CBD
The City of Matlosana has issued a formal public notice detailing strict operational regulations for refuse removal within the Klerksdorp Central Business District (CBD).

The directive outlines scheduled collection windows, bin usage guidelines, account billing protocols, and maintenance requirements aimed at regulating municipal waste management and maintaining sanitation across the city centre.

Collection Schedules and Overnight Prohibition

  • Overnight Waste Ban: The municipality has prohibited leaving refuse outdoors after 16:00 PM until the following morning.

  • Designated Put-Out Windows: Businesses and property occupants are restricted to placing refuse outside strictly between 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM and 15:00 PM – 16:00 PM.

  • Storage Limitations: Outside storage of refuse at any hours outside the specified windows is expressly prohibited.

Bin Standards and Excess Refuse Billing

  • Standard Issue Containers: Each premises is provided with a standard 240-litre mobile bin, equivalent to the capacity of three standard rubbish bags.

  • Additional Capacity Obligations: Occupants generating waste in excess of the 240-litre container limit are mandated to apply for an additional container.

  • Plastic Bag Charges: Placing surplus plastic bags on the pavement without securing an additional bin will not exempt properties from costs; extra bags will still be billed directly to the account.

Bin Care, Identification, and Municipal Inquiries

  • Occupant Responsibilities: Property occupants are required to keep all allocated bins clean, hygienic, and secured against theft or loss at all times.

  • Ownership and Serial Tracking: Mobile bins remain the property of the municipality and are tracked via individual serial numbers.

  • Marking Restrictions: Residents and business owners may only mark bins with their street name and number; applying paint or stickers is prohibited.

  • Department Contact: Administrative matters and applications for extra bins are handled by the Cleansing Section via telephone at 018 487 8771 / 8760 or via email at tduplessis@klerksdorp.org.

The public announcement highlights an ongoing initiative by the City of Matlosana to maintain orderly municipal services, curb illegal dumping, and enforce accountability among commercial and residential occupants throughout the Klerksdorp CBD. Stakeholders within the affected district are advised to align their daily disposal routines with the municipal framework to prevent billing penalties and maintain hygiene standards.
