City of Matlosana Cracks Down on By-Law Violations and Illegal Land Occupation
The coordinated action brought together the South African Police Service (SAPS) Tactical Response Team (TRT), private security forces, the Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Environmental Health Services, and multiple municipal departments to restore order and enforce local regulations.
During an inspection along the Schoonspruit Stream, located between the N12 and Voortrekker Street, law enforcement officers discovered an illegal dwelling hidden within the brush. A minor present at the scene was rescued and handed over to the SAPS Protection Unit for protective care, after which the unauthorized structure was demolished. Further operations at the Terminus Taxi Rank led to the inspection of illegal occupants found with items suspected to be stolen, resulting in the issuance of fines and the confiscation of unlawful goods.

Enforcement efforts continued in Pienaarsdorp, where authorities shut down an illegal scrapyard. After discovering two snakes on the site, officers contacted the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to ensure the reptiles were safely rescued and removed. In the same neighborhood, power was disconnected from a business found operating in breach of municipal standards. Additionally, municipal teams demolished an illegal build along the N12 near the Rio Casino to protect land use planning and city aesthetics.
City officials confirmed that joint operations alongside law enforcement and district stakeholders will remain ongoing to safeguard public property, dismantle unauthorized developments, and maintain a safe, clean, and law-abiding environment for all residents.
