Equipment Distribution Boosts Micro-Enterprises in Tlokwe and Ventersdorp

On 04 September 2026, the Department of Local Economic & Rural Development (LERD) within the JB Marks Local Municipality, in collaboration with the national Department of Small Business Development, officially implemented a rollout of the Informal and Micro Enterprise Development Programme (IMEDP). The initiative was designed to enhance operational capacity among local micro-entrepreneurs by supplying essential business machinery and operational equipment necessary to improve productivity and business longevity.

During the distribution event, 50 pre-approved beneficiaries operating within the Tlokwe and Ventersdorp regions were handed specialized equipment tailored to their respective trade sectors. Councillor Merverine Davis, the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Local Economic and Rural Development, delivered the keynote address. In her address, MMC Davis emphasized the critical role that micro-enterprises play in driving local employment and underscored the municipality's mandate to create an enabling regulatory and supportive framework for small businesses.

Information Session Unlocks Growth Resources for Local SMMEs

In a secondary initiative aimed at building long-term business capacity, LERD collaborated with Eddy the Consultant and the Small Enterprise Development and Finance Agency (SEDFA) to conduct an Introductory Information Session at the Ga-Matlabe Community Hall. The gathering brought together local entrepreneurs, community members, formal SMMEs, and local cooperatives to explore institutional support channels and financial tools.

The session covered several fundamental operational pillars:

Attendees were encouraged to engage directly with Eddy the Consultant, who was appointed by SEDFA to assist regional entrepreneurs, as well as the municipal LERD department for ongoing guidance on funding applications and business development opportunities.

Through the combined distribution of equipment and the delivery of advisory workshops, the JB Marks Local Municipality and its partner organizations continue to implement localized frameworks aimed at economic support and capacity building within its jurisdiction.
