Matlosana Updates: Clean-Ups, Outages, Assessments, and Outreach
Clean-Up Operations Target Dumping in KOSH
The City of Matlosana’s Community Services Department launched targeted clean-up campaigns aimed at mitigating illegal dumping and clearing neglected open spaces across the KOSH region. Triggered by community reports concerning public safety and environmental health, operations commenced in Tigane and Jouberton.
Major interventions occurred in Jouberton’s Extension 17, clearing an overgrown lot directly adjacent to residential properties and Tshedimosetso Secondary School. Municipal teams also removed accumulated waste and dense brush surrounding a water reservoir in Extension 19. Local authorities confirmed that additional vacant land across the region will be cleared in subsequent phases to maintain safer, cleaner public areas.
Pump Failure Causes Unplanned Water Outage
An unexpected equipment failure at a central pump station resulted in an unplanned water supply interruption affecting several residential suburbs and commercial districts. The affected zones include Oudorp, Roosheuwel, Collerville, Elandia, Declercqville, Songloed, and surrounding neighborhoods.
Municipal engineering personnel reported that a pump unit burnt out, disabling the primary pumping circuit. Technical teams are currently conducting damage assessments to facilitate immediate repairs and restore full water pressure. In the interim, local authorities have requested that affected communities conserve available water supplies.

N12 Temporary Closure Scheduled for Sinkhole Assessment
A planned temporary closure of a section of the N12 national route will take place from Saturday, 12 September 2026, to Sunday, 13 September 2026, between 06:00 and 17:00 daily. The joint operation—conducted by the City of Matlosana Local Municipality, the North West Department of Public Safety, and SANRAL—follows an initial preliminary survey conducted in August 2026 to evaluate ground stability and sinkhole risks.
To manage traffic flow during the assessment, vehicles will be detoured via Vermaasdrif Road, Buffelsdoorn Road, and Dr Martin Khunou Avenue. Motorists traveling between Klerksdorp and Potchefstroom may also divert onto Dr Martin Khunou Avenue at the Matlosana Mall intersection.
GCIS Convenes Community Media Session
The Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) organized a multi-district media engagement session at the City of Matlosana Municipal Updates venue. The event brought together regional radio, print, digital, and broadcast media representatives from all four districts in the province.
Key stakeholder presentations were delivered by the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (ICASA), the Media Development & Diversity Agency (MDDA), the South African Revenue Service (SARS), and SENTECH. The sessions focused on strategic frameworks, regulatory guidelines, and support mechanisms aimed at improving the operational sustainability of community media institutions.
