Regional Photography Congress Set for August
The Klerksdorp Fotografiekklub will host the Southern Gauteng Regional Congress on 29 August 2026. Held at the Snowflake building, the event offers a full day dedicated to technique, practical shoot stations, and advice from industry professionals.
Registration begins at 07:30, with fees set at R400 for adults and R200 for high school learners.

Keynote Session: Exploring the Cosmos
The morning schedule opens with guest speaker Dr Mart-Mari Duvenhage at 08:30. Holding an APSSA distinction alongside a background in physics, her presentation focuses on astro-photography. She will outline the mechanics of the night sky, celestial event timing, and practical mobile applications used to plan night shots.
Following her talk, Macshack will deliver a presentation at 09:00, leading into a tea break at 10:00.
Interactive Shoot Stations
From 10:30 to 13:30, delegates can rotate through five practical stations designed around different photographic styles:
Studio Portraiture: Led by Laetitia Kenny (MPSSA), focusing on studio lighting and composition.
Natural Light: Guided by Martin Dudley (MPSSA), covering creative fine-art techniques using ambient light.
Alleyway Lighting: Directed by Frans van der Schyff, demonstrating photobooth methods and natural light in outdoor spaces.
Still Life: Hosted by Monique van Rooyen (DPSSA), covering precise setup and compositional control.
Sports Car Studio: Run by technical imaging specialist Saudiq Davids, focusing on real-world vehicle photography.

Practical Gear Checklist
Organisers suggest delegates bring standard camera gear fitted with clean sensors. Recommended items include:
A wide-angle lens and a fast prime (such as 35mm, 50mm, or 85mm).
A versatile zoom lens (e.g., 24–70mm) and a sturdy tripod.
Spare batteries, cleared memory cards, a notebook, and an optional reflector.
Comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing for the industrial venue.
Afternoon Programme and Awards
A light lunch is served at 13:30, included in the registration fee. The afternoon program shifts to the prize-giving and awards ceremony at 14:15, with proceedings concluding at 16:00 after final networking opportunities.
