Free Entry Across North West Nature Reserves
The North West Parks and Tourism Board has confirmed the dates for the upcoming Park Mahala Week, offering South African citizens free entry to protected areas across the province. Running from 20 September to 27 September 2026, the annual initiative gives visitors a chance to experience local conservation areas without paying standard gate fees.
To take advantage of the offer, visitors must present a valid South African identity document at the entry points.
Parks to Explore
The North West Parks and Tourism Board manages a network of protected reserves covering varied terrains, including wetlands, bushveld, and mountain ranges. Destinations participating in the free access week include:
- Pilanesberg National Park
- Madikwe Game Reserve
- Kgaswane Mountain Reserve
- Borakalalo Nature Reserve
- Botsalano Game Reserve
- Mafikeng Game Reserve
- Molopo Nature Reserve
- Molemane Eye Nature Reserve
- Wolwespruit Nature Reserve
- Vaalkop Dam Nature Reserve
- Boskop Nature Reserve
- Bloemhof Dam Nature Reserve
- Barberspan Bird Sanctuary
- S.A. Lombard Nature Reserve
Each reserve offers a distinct landscape, varying wildlife populations, and unique conservation projects.
Important Information for Visitors
While day access fees are waived during the week, standard terms and conditions apply. Free entry covers access to the reserves; however, additional services such as guided safaris, accommodation, and private activities will remain chargeable at normal rates.
