The JB Marks Local Municipality engaged in a series of community-centered initiatives to mark Nelson Mandela Day, demonstrating a commitment to social development, youth outreach, and gender-based violence (GBV) awareness across several areas. The outreach efforts spanned multiple locations, focusing on addressing immediate socio-economic challenges, providing essential government services, and commemorating the legacy of Nelson Mandela through shared action.



Youth Empowerment and Men’s Health Initiative in Extension 6


On 17 July, the municipality initiated its Mandela Day activities at the Bacha Pele Youth Centre in Extension 6, hosting a specialized program targeted at men and boys. Organized with community partners and supported by local security services such as MEG Security, the initiative focused on health, safety, and community welfare.


As part of the outreach, practical support was provided to community members:



Housing Renovation Project in Extension 11, Ikageng


In Extension 11, Ward 01 (Ikageng), the JB Marks Local Municipality partnered with the Department of Social Development to undertake a housing renovation project. The targeted effort focused on restoring and refurbishing a Femicide family home.

Literacy and Public Service Delivery at Matlwang Community Hall


The commemoration efforts extended to the Matlwang Community Hall, where local officials and residents convened for a multi-layered program centered on literacy, community dialogue, and government accessibility.
