Crafting Custom Rugs at Momentum Aardklop
Textile design takes center stage this October as Fybre Studios brings a hands-on tufting workshop to the Momentum Aardklop festival. Located at The Roots Sonkamer, the open studio setup offers festivalgoers a chance to build a custom rug or wall hanging from scratch.
Tufting uses a mechanical gun to loop yarn through canvas, creating dense, textured patterns. The technique requires no prior crafting background. Instructors guide participants through design transfer, yarn selection, and equipment handling over the two-hour block.
The hands-on session functions as a creative break between scheduled theatre productions and music performances. Participants leave with a completed handmade piece ready for display.
