Municipal Housing Exhibitions Educate First-Time Homebuyers
The City of Matlosana's Human Settlements Unit, in partnership with the North West Department of Human Settlements, launched public awareness exhibitions regarding the First Home Finance (FHF) subsidy programme. The exhibitions were scheduled at Tower Mall on Wednesday, 02 September 2026, and at City Mall on Thursday, 03 September 2026, both starting at 10:00.
The First Home Finance program serves as a targeted government intervention for households earning between R3 501 and R22 000 per month—a income bracket that typically falls outside traditional free government housing subsidies but faces challenges securing conventional private mortgage loans. During the exhibition events, departmental officials were posted on-site to outline qualification requirements, assist attendees with required documentation, answer housing enquiries, and process applications for first-time buyers looking to secure affordable housing finance.
Jouberton Youth Participate in Grade R Movement and Sport Programme
Addressing early childhood health and physical development, the City of Matlosana’s Sport and Recreation Department partnered with the Athletes in Need Organisation to deliver the Grade R Sport and Movement Development Programme. The initiative engaged approximately 1,500 Grade R learners from various schools in the Jouberton area across three event days: 27 August, 28 August, and 01 September 2026, hosted at both the Matlosana and Alabama Stadiums.
The curriculum focused on fundamental motor skills and physical literacy using age-tailored activities, including running, jumping, balancing, obstacle navigation, mini-soccer, animal movement exercises, and rhythm games. Designed to improve agility, balance, confidence, and teamwork among young children, the collaborative programme concluded with municipal recognition for the participating schools, educators, sports coaches, and volunteers who coordinated the logistics.
North West Provincial Government Hosts One-Stop Services Day
To streamline access to public resources, a North West Government Exhibition Day was scheduled for Thursday, 03 September 2026, running from 09:00 to 15:00 at the Jouberton Tower Mall, located at the corner of Joe Slovo Road (N12) and 7 Jabulani Street in Jouberton, Klerksdorp.
Operating as a centralized "one-stop shop" for public administration, the event allowed community members to engage directly with departmental representatives, gather statutory information, and access provincial services in a single localized space.
Orkney Finance Office Reopens Following Facility Maintenance
In administrative developments, the municipality issued a public notice confirming that the Orkney Finance Office and pay-point facility has returned to its original building following the completion of necessary infrastructure maintenance.
With maintenance works concluded, consumers and residents residing in Orkney can resume on-site municipal utility payments and financial inquiries at the permanent office location. Municipal management acknowledged the patience shown by local taxpayers during the temporary service relocation.
Faan Meintjes Nature Reserve Prepares for Outdoor Tourism Weekend
The municipality, in collaboration with the provincial Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT) and the Dr. Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, is completing arrangements for the Kwalata Camping & Hiking 2026 event. Set to take place from 11 to 13 September 2026 at the Faan Meintjes Nature Reserve near Klerksdorp, the initiative is designed to highlight local natural heritage and boost regional tourism.
The event itinerary begins on Friday, 11 September, featuring registration, camp setup, tent erections, and an evening bonfire featuring traditional potjie kos and storytelling. Organizers have made camping packages available to the public to encourage community engagement with local nature reserves and conservation areas.
