Flame’s Third Stop: Bophelong Special School Hosted Law Enforcement Torch Run in Mahikeng Yesterday

As an essential part of the buildup to the main event, taking place from 28 to 30 August 2026 in the Bojanala District, the Law Enforcement Torch Run brought together law enforcement officers, recognized as the Guardians of the Flame, to carry the Flame of Hope alongside Special Olympics athletes. The primary objective of the relay is to generate public awareness, gather financial support for the Special Olympics movement, and champion acceptance, inclusion, and respect for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Third Stop: Honouring the Athlete Oath and Inclusion Pledge

Yesterday’s event at Bophelong Special School centered on the core values of the movement, drawing together educators, learners, law enforcement personnel, and community advocates in Mahikeng.

Key Elements of Yesterday's Stop:

• The Special Olympics Athlete Oath: Participants highlighted the iconic athlete oath: "Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt."

• The Inclusion Pledge: In alignment with the global #InclusionRevolution campaign, attendees and organizers reaffirmed their commitment to social unity and acceptance through the Inclusion Pledge, promoting equal rights for people with intellectual disabilities.

• Law Enforcement & Youth Engagement: Officers escorted and presented the Flame of Hope to the learners and educators of Bophelong Special School, building localized support ahead of the national competition.

The Final Destination: Torch Arrives in Bojanala District Today

Following yesterday's proceedings in Mahikeng, the Flame of Hope completed its tour across the province's special schools. Today, 28 August 2026, the torch makes its final arrival in the Bojanala Platinum District. The Flame will proceed to the Bojanala District Civic Centre before entering Hoërskool Rustenburg to ignite the cauldron during the Opening Ceremony of the National Games.
