Inside the Digital Cave
Artist Cassian Robbertze brings a fresh visual arts installation titled This Is Where I Post From to the NWU Gallery.
The exhibition takes place in near-total darkness, housing four life-sized humanoid figures. Each muscular figure features an unfinished, generic head resembling a digital character model. Illuminated only by a small, flickering light held in their hands, much like a phone screen in the dark—the installation casts light over the physical forms in the room.
Avatars, AI, and Online Aggression
The work looks closely at online behavior and screen-bound interactions. Through exaggerated physicality, the installation reflects a confrontational form of masculinity that thrives behind anonymous online profiles. Free from real-world consequences, these figures inhabit a digital cave where online personalities gather and reinforce one another.
Robbertze also explores the line between human behavior and artificial intelligence
