This Mandela Month, PAWS Haven is translating the iconic "67 minutes" of service into a powerful "R67" initiative. For just R67, community members have a unique opportunity to make a massive difference in the lives of hundreds of homeless, abandoned, and vulnerable animals currently seeking refuge at the shelter.
Managing a rescue facility of this scale is a massive undertaking. PAWS Haven is currently providing shelter, medical care, and daily nourishment to an incredible 283 cats, 478 dogs, and 73 puppies. Every single rand raised through their Mandela Month campaign goes directly toward supporting these animals and expanding the shelter's crucial Mass Sterilisation Project, which works tirelessly to break the cycle of unwanted litters in the community.
Four easy ways to contribute for just R67
PAWS Haven has designed several fun, accessible, and highly impactful ways for the public to participate in their Mandela Month drive. Until 31 July (while stocks last), community members can get involved through any of the following initiatives:
Purchase Grade A Eggs (R67 per tray): In a special partnership with local producer Chubby Chick, supporters can buy a tray of 30 Grade A Chubby Chick eggs for just R67. Every tray sold directly funds the shelter's sterilisation efforts.
Sponsor a Shelter Resident (R67): For the price of a cup of coffee and a treat, donors can sponsor a specific cat, dog, or puppy, directly helping the shelter cover the costs of high-quality food, warm bedding, and essential veterinary care.
Adopt a Sterilised Animal (R67): To encourage families to open their homes to a rescue pet, PAWS Haven is offering a special Mandela Month adoption rate of just R67 for pre-sterilised animals. This is a wonderful opportunity to give a deserving animal a second chance at a happy life.
Shop the "Mom's Closet" Sale (R67 per item): Fashion lovers can hunt for bargains at the shelter's clothing sale, where a variety of beautiful, pre-loved items are available for just R67 each.
Partnering for progress: The Mandela Day pallet project
Beyond the R67 promotions, the spirit of community collaboration is alive and well at the shelter. Local business Chubby Chick has stepped up as a key partner this winter, generously sponsoring a large consignment of wooden pallets for the facility.
These pallets serve a vital structural purpose: on Mandela Day, volunteers and staff will come together to paint and treat them, transforming them into elevated, insulated bases to keep the shelter's dog kennels warm, dry, and safe from the cold ground. It is a perfect example of how local businesses and hands-on volunteer work combine to build hope and improve the daily lives of shelter animals.
