JB Marks Launches N12 Law Enforcement Speed Cameras to Boost Road Safety

In a joint initiative, the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport Management partnered with Traffic Management Technologies (TMT) to deploy new law enforcement speed cameras at the busy intersection of the N12 and Rocher Street, located adjacent to De Wilge School.

The high-visibility launch was attended by key local leaders, including the Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for the Department, Cllr Musa Leon Mkhabela. The strategic placement of the technology near a school zone highlights municipal efforts to protect vulnerable road users, particularly pedestrians and young students, who face elevated risks from high-speed transit traffic along the N12 corridor.

The newly installed speed cameras are designed to assist law enforcement officers by continuously monitoring vehicle speeds and recording violations where motorists exceed prescribed statutory limits. Municipal officials stated that the implementation of this technology supports broader law enforcement efforts to foster greater compliance with traffic regulations. Rather than serving as a punitive measure or intimidation tactic, local authorities emphasized that the primary objective of the camera system is preventative, aimed at reducing reckless driving, minimizing road traffic collisions, and decreasing speed-related fatalities.
