Home Invasion in Khutsong Extension 6: On 27 August, three armed men held up three siblings, tied them up with electrical cords, and stole cellphones and appliances before escaping in a red VW Polo with Free State license plates.
Aggressive Surge in Hijackings and Kidnappings: Police are investigating multiple violent carjackings across the P111, N14, and surrounding areas between 25 and 30 August. In several cases, criminals impersonated police or traffic officers—including individuals wearing JMPD uniforms in a white Nissan minibus on 3 September—to force drivers off the road before blindfolding and abducting them.
Crackdown on Illegal Mining: Integrated forces including the SAPS, SANDF, and Sibanye-Stillwater security conducted major Operation Prosper raids. An operation near Westonaria on 2 September resulted in 26 arrests and the fatality of a suspect who opened fire on law enforcement, alongside the seizure of three AK-47s and an Uzi. Earlier that week in Blyvoor, the National Intervention Unit fatally shot a wanted illegal mining kingpin who pointed an AK-47 at officers. Further raids at Kloof Gold Mine on 8 September led to 10 additional arrests.
Merafong Leadership Hosts Imbizo: Merafong Executive Mayor Cllr Nozuko Best and Provincial MEC Jacob Mamabolo led an Integrated Provincial Safety and Service Delivery Imbizo at Khutsong Stadium on 3 September. Unattended Blybank Water and Sewage Leaks: Ongoing leaks in Dove, Hornbill, and Spaniel Streets have left areas submerged for months. Local community leaders warn that unaddressed leaks pose severe sinkhole risks due to Blybank’s dolomitic ground.
Batswaneng Power Outages Linked to Hostels: A section of Batswaneng in Khutsong has lacked electricity for months after illegal connections from nearby dilapidated hostels damaged local infrastructure. Eskom has refused to restore power until the hostels are cleared, while residents also cite the structures as criminal hideouts.
Welverdiend Main Road Rebuild Cracks: Newly resurfaced sections of Station Street in Welverdiend are already showing deep, gaping cracks down to the gravel layer, triggering criticism over contractor workmanship on the heavy-traffic route.
Violence in Khutsong Ext 5: A 36-year-old mother was shot in both legs and her 15-year-old son was shot twice in the stomach during an early-morning home invasion on 2 September. Both were rushed to the hospital following the incident.
Tragic Road Fatalities on the N12 and Surrounds: A serious head-on collision between a bakkie and a truck on the N12 between Fochville and Potchefstroom on 6 September claimed one life and left four critically injured. Separately, two pedestrians were killed in hit-and-run or fatal vehicle strikes near Blyvooruitzicht and Khutsong Ext 5 over the same weekend.
Public Warning on Unauthorised Municipal Letter: The Office of the Speaker issued an official notice warning the public against an unauthorized confirmation letter for Ward Councillors circulating in the municipality, advising residents to verify official documents.
Municipal Intervention in Kokosi Extension: Following a public video highlighting local infrastructure issues, municipal teams cleared a severe recurring sewer blockage at a home in Kokosi and launched an investigation to resolve an elderly resident's disconnected water line.
