Ten Suspects Apprehended in Klerksdorp Illegal Mining Bust

The targeted sting was conducted by members of the Hawks' Klerksdorp-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, supported by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) and the Jouberton South African Police Service (SAPS).

Intelligence-Led Raid on Farm Property

Authorities initiated the crackdown after receiving actionable intelligence regarding illegal gold processing occurring on a local plot formatted to resemble a farm. Reports provided to law enforcement highlighted heavy vehicles and trucks repeatedly entering the property loaded with suspected gold-bearing material for on-site processing.

Upon operationalizing the intelligence and arriving at the scene, law enforcement cornered ten individuals aged between 16 and 47 who attempted to flee the premises. During the operation, officers successfully seized:

• Specialized mining equipment

• Two vehicles linked to the illicit operations

Impending Court Appearance
