Joint Law Enforcement Operations Target By-Law Compliance
In a coordinated effort to maintain public health standards and regulatory order, the City of Matlosana Law Enforcement unit partnered with the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Friday, 24 July 2026, for targeted inspections across the Klerksdorp CBD and Flamwood.
During operations along Anderson Street in the CBD, officers focused on unpermitted trading activities. Confiscations were carried out on commercial goods deemed unfit for human consumption under municipal health by-laws. Furthermore, four undocumented foreign nationals were detained and transferred to the Department of Home Affairs for legal processing. One commercial facility on Anderson Street was ordered to close after inspectors logged multiple violations related to occupational health, hygiene standards, and municipal fire safety regulations.
In a separate, parallel action in Flamwood, enforcement teams shut down an unpermitted scrapyard operating in contravention of local land-use and operational by-laws.
Economic Development Clarifies Business Licensing and Funding Pathways
To address public queries regarding commercial permits and small-business support, the municipal Department of Local Economic Development (LED) issued an administrative notice on Thursday, 23 July 2026, regarding business licensing protocols.
The LED department clarified that official business license applications are processed directly by the provincial Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (DEDECT), situated at Jade Square in Aurum, Klerksdorp, rather than local municipal offices.
Additionally, the municipality announced the postponement of a planned joint session with the National and Provincial Departments of Small Business Development regarding tuck shop funding, originally scheduled for 29 July at the Klerksdorp Auditorium.
