Women Law Enforcement Leaders Spearhead Operation Basadi Along Carltonville Road
An all-women joint law enforcement initiative successfully targeted crime and road safety along the Carltonville Road (P89/1) on Friday, 21 August 2026.

Led by Potchefstroom Station Commander Brigadier Matamela, "Operation Basadi" mobilized female officers and officials across multiple government sectors to execute high-visibility operations aimed at safeguarding local transit routes and surrounding neighborhoods within the JB Marks Local Municipality.

The tactical operation brought together a broad coalition of stakeholders, showcasing inter-departmental collaboration. Key participating entities included Provincial Traffic, JB Marks Traffic, the Department of Employment and Labour, Transnet, the Department of Correctional Services, Potchefstroom Public Order Police, Potchefstroom Vispol members, Provincial Communication, and representatives from the Potchefstroom Community Policing Forum (CPF). By unifying these distinct agencies, the initiative pooled specialized resources to address public safety, labor compliance, and infrastructure security simultaneously.

Operational activities along the P89/1 corridor focused on high-density interventions to deter illegal acts and enforce statutory regulations. Law enforcement personnel set up strategic roadblocks, conducted routine stop-and-search procedures on passing vehicles, and carried out targeted patrols throughout the surrounding areas. In addition to enforcement measures, participating teams engaged directly with the public by distributing crime-prevention pamphlets to motorists and local residents, offering practical safety guidelines and fostering open communication between law enforcement and the public.

Operation Basadi underscores the expanding leadership role of women in municipal policing and provincial security operations. Beyond immediate tactical outcomes, the initiative reinforced the commitment of multi-agency partnerships to suppress crime, improve road user awareness, and build stronger trust within the community. JB Marks Local Municipality and its partner departments plan to continue leveraging joint operations to maintain order and increase public safety along major regional transport routes.
