CBD Compliance and Law Enforcement Operations
Operations began on Friday, 14 August 2026, when the JB Marks Local Municipality conducted a joint Inspectorate compliance operation in the Potchefstroom CBD. Led by the Department of Community Safety, Roads and Transport Management, the operation included the South African Police Service (SAPS), Local Economic and Rural Development (LERD), and Environmental Health officials. Inspections targeted local tuck shop owners and hawkers to enforce health and safety requirements, municipal by-laws, and regulatory standards, resulting in several individuals being taken in for questioning.
Water Supply Interruption and Infrastructure Damage
On Tuesday, 18 August 2026, construction work on the Promosa-Poortjie Dam Bulk Sewer Line project accidentally damaged a high-pressure water supply pipeline near the intersection of Louis Le Grange and Jeppe Streets. The damage posed a risk of prolonged water supply interruptions across the Bult, Miederpark, CBD, Military Base, and Potchindustria areas. Municipal personnel and contract teams worked to isolate the damaged pipe and de-water the excavated trench to safely execute repairs.
Provincial Communicators Gathering
Potchefstroom hosted Day 2 of the Local Government Communicators Forum (LGCF) on Wednesday, 19 Augustus 2026. The provincial forum focused on strengthening digital government presence, data utilization, and public engagement. Key presentation topics included addressing misinformation and disinformation, presented by Senatle Choeneemang of the Government Communication and Information System (GCIS).
Educational Outreach and Sports Success
Educational and youth developments highlighted the latter half of the week. On Thursday, 20 August 2026, the JB Marks Library and Museum visited Toevlug Primary School in Ventersdorp, conducting reading sessions, puppet shows, and heritage education.
Concurrently, Executive Mayor Cllr. Gaba Thithiba Ka Qhele extended congratulations to three local schools that crowned themselves North West Provincial Champions at the SANLAM Kay Motsepe Schools Championship:

Potchefstroom Primary School (Potchefstroom): Awarded R100 000
Thuto Boswa Secondary School (Ventersdorp): Awarded R150 000
All three institutions will represent the North West Province at the National Finals in Pretoria on 25 September 2026.
Municipal Billing System Updates
To address potential delays in physical mail delivery, the municipality issued a directive on 20 August 2026 requesting all property owners and ratepayers to update their contact details on the Municipal Billing System. Residents were advised to register for electronic statements via the online CAB Printers portal (
