The North West Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, alongside the South African Agricultural Awards (SAAA) and AgriSETA, officially commenced its city-by-city nominations tour with a high-profile activation event at the Potchefstroom College of Agriculture. The promotional roadshow, serves to raise awareness regarding the upcoming awards, drive participation, and offer comprehensive guidance on the entry procedures to local stakeholders across the agricultural value chain. With entries officially open, the awards program aims to honor excellence, leadership, and sustainability across the fields of farming, agribusiness, and culinary arts.  


Through a strategic partnership with AgriSETA, the initiative focuses on building skills development, training, and mentorship to support a sustainable future for South African agriculture. Producers operating at all scales, ranging from emerging smallholders to expansive commercial operations, are invited to put forward their entries to showcase their contributions to the nation's food security and agricultural economy.  



MEC Sambatha Outlines Vision for Youth and Innovation


During the event hosted at the Potchefstroom College of Agriculture, North West Agriculture and Rural Development MEC Madoda Sambatha addressed an audience of local farmers, industry professionals, and students. In his address, MEC Sambatha urged participants to utilize the platform to highlight their achievements, modernization strategies, and sector growth. He noted the profound importance of celebrating individuals who make a meaningful impact on regional food production, rural development, and macroeconomic growth.  


MEC Sambatha specifically challenged the attending agricultural students to remain dedicated to their academic work and actively embrace modern farming innovations. He emphasized that navigating the current landscape requires young professionals to position themselves proactively as the future leaders of the agricultural sector. Attendees also received structural briefings from Ms. Kubenokuthula Ndlovu of AgriSETA and Ms. Ayanda Mnguni of the SAAA, who collectively outlined the mandatory nomination criteria, eligibility requirements, and professional opportunities available through the platform.
