The Adoption Process
To ensure every dog finds a safe and lasting home, Paws Haven follows a simple step-by-step adoption process:
Step 1: Application: Submit an official application form along with a copy of your ID, proof of address, and written permission from your landlord if you are renting.
Step 2: Home Visit: A shelter representative visits your property to confirm that boundary fencing is secure and the environment is safe for your chosen dog.
Step 3: Meet-and-Greet: All family members and current household pets visit the facility to make sure everyone gets along comfortably.
Step 4: Adoption Agreement: Once approved, you sign the adoption contract and pay the fee to cover your pet's medical care.
Step 5: Welcome Home: You collect your new companion along with their complete medical records and a commitment to complete their sterilisation when they are old enough.
How You Can Help Paws Haven
Paws Haven is currently under immense strain and urgently needs community support:
Puppy Food Crisis: With more than 50 puppies in their care and 6 to 7 new arrivals each week, the shelter goes through roughly 450 kg of puppy food every month (costing nearly R12,000). Donations of quality puppy food are desperately needed to keep these growing bellies full.
Kennels & Foster Homes: Extra kennels and temporary foster homes help separate puppies, keep them healthy, and reduce the spread of common puppy illnesses.
Promote Sterilisation: The cycle of endless litters can only end if pet owners spay and neuter their animals. Sterilisation is the most effective way to prevent shelter overcrowding.
