KYB Academy opens its doors for September open day
KYB Academy will host an open day in September, offering prospective students, families, and job-seekers a direct look at career paths in trade work and tertiary preparation.
The event takes place over two days at the KYB Academy Technical Training Centre, situated on the corner of the R53 (Parys Road) and Modderdam Crossing in Turfvlei, Potchefstroom. Doors open on Friday, 4 September, from 09:00 to 17:00, and continue on Saturday, 5 September, from 08:00 to 12:00.
Practical trades on display
Visitors will have access to live demonstrations across all nine of the institution's KYB TECH artisan trades. The offered qualifications focus on practical skills aligned with current industry requirements:
- Millwright
- Automotive Mechanic
- Diesel Mechanic
- Electrician
- Transportation Electrician
- Fitter & Turner
- Mechanical Fitter
- Boilermaker
- Welder
Academic pathways and short courses
Beyond technical trade qualifications, staff will present information on two additional educational tracks aimed at skill development and university entry:
- TEPP (Tertiary Education Preparation Programme): Designed for learners aiming to bridge the transition into university or higher education studies.
- ASAP (Academy Short Accredited Programmes): Focused courses tailored for professionals seeking targetted skills development or career advancement.
What to expect on site
Attendees can tour the training facilities, meet the lecturing staff, and engage directly with current students to learn more about the day-to-day coursework. The programmes focus on combining practical experience with technical knowledge to improve graduate employability in the job market.
