In a poignant full-circle moment, community leader and entrepreneur Peterson Sebati returned to his alma mater, Potchefstroom High School for Boys, to address current learners as the guest speaker during a special morning assembly.

Sebati, the founder of the community-driven initiative Retsa Tsela, used the platform to share his personal journey from sitting in those very same school halls to leading wide-scale community transformation across Potchefstroom.

From Learner to Catalyst for Change

Addressing the assembly, Sebati reflected on how his formative years at Potchefstroom High School for Boys laid the groundwork for his life’s work. Through Retsa Tsela—an organization committed to restoring local schools, public spaces, and neighborhoods—Sebati has championed the philosophy of servant leadership, demonstrating how grassroots action can revitalize entire communities.

During his address, he challenged learners to look beyond individual ambition and consider their role in the broader society:

"True leadership begins with serving others. Real transformation happens when we choose to take responsibility for the places and people around us."

A Call to Bold Dreams and Active Leadership

Sebati’s message focused on four core pillars for the young men in attendance:

The visit marked a significant milestone in Sebati’s personal and professional journey, reinforcing the enduring connection between past generations of learners and the future leaders currently walking the school’s corridors.

As Potchefstroom High School for Boys continues its tradition of building character and leadership, Sebati’s return offered a living example of what can be achieved when vision, faith, and hard work align in service of the community.
