A Nation United: Dr. Rassie Erasmus Honoured with South Africa’s Highest Accolade
In a ceremony that resonated with the spirit of Stronger Together, President Cyril Ramaphosa officially bestowed the Order of Ikhamanga in Gold upon Springbok head coach, Dr. Johan “Rassie” Erasmus.
The award, presented at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse, marks a milestone not just for rugby, but for the role of sport in nation-building. While Rassie is celebrated globally for his tactical brilliance, the Presidency emphasized that his true achievement has been his "inspirational leadership" in using the Springboks to bridge social divides and instill a sense of shared purpose across the country.

SA Rugby President, Mr. Mark Alexander, joined the chorus of praise, highlighting Rassie's unique impact on the South African soul.

What is the Order of Ikhamanga?
The word Ikhamanga is the isiXhosa name for the Strelitzia (Crane Flower). This flower was chosen because it symbolizes unique beauty and the "flowering" of South African creativity and talent.
The award is divided into three levels:
Gold (OIG): For exceptional achievement (Rassie’s category).
Silver (OIS): For excellent achievement.
Bronze (OIB): For outstanding achievement.
